Dear Lazz,

I am a 70 year old woman with gray hair. Lately, I feel like I am looking “washed-out.” What color make-up do you suggest I wear? I’d still like to turn heads, hopefully you can help!   Maria  in Miami

Hi Maria.  If you are feeling “washed out,” there are some simple things that you can do.  Change your color palette to only warm tones such as the “pinks” and the “peaches.” Put these colors on your cheeks and they will perk you up and give you a youthful glow.

Dear Lazz,

I have been dying my hair since I was very young.  I was a brunette in my youth and continue to color my hair the same as it’s always been. Now that I am in my 60’s, I am starting to think the dark hair makes me look older. What hair color do you suggest for someone my age?   Lisa in Delray Beach

Lisa, let’s get rid of the dark hair first.   While remaining in the brunette tones, go two to three shades lighter with some gold highlights.  Pick out a color that you feel comfortable with.  This will make you feel more youthful and it will perk up your skin tone as well.

Dear Lazz,

As I age, I am starting to notice that the more make-up foundation I put on to cover my wrinkles, the more it goes into the crevices and makes me look more wrinkled.  Is there a product that will not do this?  Or should I not use a foundation anymore?  Joanne in Boca Raton

Hello Joanne.  Find a make-up primer, especially made for mature skin.  It will have a “wrinkle filler” in it.  Put this on your face first and then use a base.  I strongly suggest a mineral based make-up line.  This will not only hydrate your skin, but give you a youthful glow.

Dear Lazz,

My daughter recently told me I wear too much make-up; to be honest I was a bit insulted. I consider myself a fashionable 56 year old! What cosmetic advice do you recommend in order for me to look more age appropriate? Sara in West Palm Beach

Sometimes women have a tendency to use too much make-up so it’s always best to follow this one simple rule….”Less is more.”  While some think that a lot of make-up looks good, in reality, it makes a person look much older.  My advice would be to use a moisturized tint instead of a base.  Pick out some nice, soft colors that won’t make you look overly made-up.  Remember to use less make-up during the day and step it up a bit for evenings.
