Dear Lazz,

Friends keep telling me that vitamins will help my hair look its best.  I currently take a multi-vitamin but see no difference.  My salt and pepper hair is coarse and wiry.  I need some professional help. Marissa in Hialeah

Marissa, taking a multi-vitamin is a good start, but you need more than that.  Take an extra B complex as well as Biotin.  These are very important vitamins for healthy hair.  There are also shampoos and conditioners that you can buy at your health food store, they are vitamin enriched and will complement the multi-vitamin that you are now taking.

Dear Lazz,

I am a 58 year old woman that colors and straightens her hair.  My hair is looking damaged.  Is there anything I can do to revitalize my hair?  Cindy in Miami Beach

It seems that you are using too many chemical processes at the same time.  I suggest that you don’t color your hair and straighten it on the same day.  You should wait a few weeks, at least, between processes.  For over processed hair, you should use a shampoo and conditioner that has a low ph balance.  It will help to make your hair shinier and easier to handle.

Dear Lazz,

Although I am in my late 60’s, my curly hair is still very thick and unruly.  I have tried both short styles and long styles, but I still find my curls difficult to manage.  What advice can you give me?  I am at my “wits ends.”  (Not split, though, haha)     Katarina in Hollywood

Hi Katarina, there are so many new products on the market that will help calm your unruly curls.  I suggest that you have a conversation with your stylist to see what it is that you really want.  Is it a softer curl or totally straight hair?  If you can’t go to a stylist, there are many over the counter products that you can use yourself that will give you a softer look.  The most important thing is to make sure that the shampoo and conditioner that you’re using are designed specifically for your hair type.

Dear Lazz,

My son recently came home from college and said that my hair was looking thin.  Actually, he said that he could see my scalp.  I looked in the mirror and realized that what he was telling me was absolutely true!  I had not been paying very much attention to my hair lately.  Please tell me what I can do to decrease the appearance of my thinning hair.    Linda, in Boca

First, let me ask you if you have been under a lot of stress lately or have you made any serious changes in your diet?  That can cause loss of hair.  If this is not the case, try taking vitamin supplements. There are certain vitamins that help to keep hair healthy.  Make sure you buy a shampoo for thinning hair as it will help to make it thicker and give you more body.  If these things do not work, I suggest you visit a Dermatologist to determine the reason for your hair loss.
