Julio Iglesias is loved the world over.  As proof of this star’s international stature, his website (www.JulioIglesias.com) is written in 21 different languages, from Chinese to Hebrew and everything in between! Born in Madrid on September 23, 1943 Mr. Iglesias transcends languages and boundaries.  Of his 79 albums, he has sold 300 million worldwide. As a matter of fact, Julio Iglesias is the best selling Spanish-speaking artist of all time! What a fantastic achievement!

In 1983, the Guinness Book of World Records awarded Mr. Iglesias with the only Diamond Disc ever given by their institution. This honor recognized him as the artist who has sung and recorded in the most languages in the history of music: 20 in total.  The most recent recordings were in 2006, on the album “Romantic Classics.” He sung in Mandarin Chinese, Philippine Tagalog, and Bahasa Indonesian.

Julio Iglesias has collected awards, accolades and honors from around the globe! In 1988, he won a Grammy Award and one year later was awarded a star with his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He holds an American Music Award and the prestigious “ASCAP Pied Piper Award,” (the highest award of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). Julio is in great company; the Pied Piper award has also been bestowed upon other icons such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand. Mr. Iglesias is the only foreign artist honored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture for his record-breaking sales of albums in that country. In 1989 he was named UNICEF Special Ambassador for the Performing Arts, a title he holds with much affection and which he continues to carry with great esteem.

His international appeal goes beyond his many awards and accolades. In 42 years of an unstoppable career, Mr. Iglesias has received 2,600 platinum and gold records. He has performed more than 5,000 concerts in 600 cities around the world, and more than 60 million people have seen him perform live. Julio Iglesias has sung duets with famous artists such as Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Art Garfunkel, Paul Anka, Charles Aznavour, Plácido Domingo, Sting, The Beach Boys, Nana Mouskouri, Mireille Mathieu, Dalida, Lola Flores, Pedro Vargas, Alejandro Fernández, José Luis Rodríguez, Wei Wei, Zeze di Camargo and Luciano.

Julio Iglesias is currently on a world tour called “Starry Night.”  This is a tour without borders, taking him to perform on the five continents. The “Starry Night” world tour started in Punta del Este (Uruguay) then, crossing the Río de la Plata, he performed his show in many Argentinean cities, Peru and Panama.

Julio’s most recent tour destinations have also included the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, Japan and Hawaii. Without a doubt, his return to Australia and to the stages of Asia has been the most memorable. Within these two continents, his popularity remains at its highest point in four decades. His songs are heard daily throughout this part of the world!

The Asian leg of the tour started with a charity show benefiting the victims of the Ondoy typhoon, which devastated the Philippines in September, 2009. In March of this year, the Manila Times said the following in regards to Mr. Iglesias’s generosity, “While on a visit to the Philippines, balladeer Julio Iglesias has been proving that he really has a heart of gold... Iglesias donated his considerable fee to a new Gawad Kalinga village that will house 200 families who were all rendered homeless by the devastating typhoon.” The world could use more people like Julio Iglesias!

Mr. Iglesias currently makes his primary home in Miami Beach.  He has three grown accomplished children as well as five younger children (including twin girls) from his relationship with Miranda Johanna Maria Rijnsburger. Life is good for Julio Iglesias!

The “Starry Night” world tour will continue throughout 2010. Visit www.JulioIglesias.com for additional show dates.
