We all know what to do in order to age well in our bodies. The doctors are always reminding us:
-lower your cholesterol by eating healthy foods
-keep active by walking, moving and exercising
-lower your blood pressure and balance it with a healthy diet, hydration and medications, if prescribed. Probably you will remember other tips from your doctor as well.
Now…What happens to our soul? Does it age? “Soul,” from the Latin word, animus, meaning mind, courage, desire, related to anima, meaning living being, mind, disposition, passion, courage, anger, spirit and feeling. We can simplify it in a few words….. ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE.
No my dear friends, there is no age for our soul, but we must take care of it and develop it. We go through our lives living many ages at the same time:
-Chronological age (what our identifications “announce.” So we can not lie!)
-Our organ’s age (the aging that has taken place since we were born and there is no “botox” for that)
-The age that other people believe we are (watch out! The person who believes we are older than we are becomes our "enemy”!)
-The age we feel we are…..our soul age
Look at yourself, and not only in the mirror. Observe your daily actions. Get connected with yourself. What age do you feel you are?
The answer to this question lies in our attitude towards life.
Our body experiences limitations as we get older. In spite of that, our soul and our desire have the beautiful capacity to search for a way to keep developing itself. The secret is…..WE MUST WANT IT!!
Of course, when I’m in my 70’s or 80’s and have to use a walker or wheelchair and I want to dance as I did in my 30s, I could not. BUT…Who says that I could not dance?
Many of you may answer “I CANNOT DO IT ANY MORE, I AM OLD”, others may say, “I AM GOING TO FIND A WAY TO KEEP DOING IT”
Which one do you identify with?
If it is the second one, insist that you want it. All your physical and emotional systems will organize and use all of your creativity to do it. I am sure you will find a way!
It is not to deny a reality, not at all. It is to change something that is an impediment to something productive. Looking around us, we will see many examples of friends, neighbors, artists, professionals and people from all walks of life who did not stop ‘living’ with the passage of time.
Maybe you are one of those people who are always ‘BETTING ON LIFE.’ Congratulations! Keep it up!
Or, maybe, you are one who believes that enjoying life is only for young people… perhaps you will make me eat my words…Oh! You will not? Ok, then I invite you to try to Encourage Yourself!
Take something you desire to do, one of those things that you think age doesn’t allow you to do anymore, love, dance, play, etc. Remove all of the spider webs from your mind, and after dedicating some time, although not much time, to being upset, thinking that you cannot do it now as you once did – let’s now be creative!
Look for support from friends and professionals. Look for information. Look at what others do in the same situation. LEARN. Trust in yourself. It is not easy but it is heartwarming, amusing, and healthy. Your body will even THANK YOU! You will be surprised to see that apparently, in a magic way, you have created a new way to keep doing what you desire to do. No doubt! You will prove to yourself that age is not a problem that will keep you from enjoying life. You have found LIFE! Cheers!
A gift to think about.
…Deserving life is a vertical uplifting
beyond harm, beyond falling down,
is the same as giving the truth
and our own freedom a big WELCOME.
Just lasting longer and being there does not give us bragging rights,
because it is not the same as living life ...Honor Life!
Honor Life
