Seniors are a Vital Commodity

By EDITH SCHAFFER LEDERBERG, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER OF BROWARD COUNTY

A dedicated and persistent effort by state legislative leaders like Representative Matt Hudson and Senator Eleanor Sobel, resulted in augments in Community Care for the Elderly and Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative Allocations for fiscal year 07/01/15 – 06/30/16. Advocates throughout Florida joined the effort that also provided repeat funding for Medicaid Managed Care Staff.

At the present time, the National Aging Network is pleading for Congress to reauthorize the Older Americans Act which provides supportive dollars for Meals-On-Wheels, Senior Centers, Adult Day Care, Transportation, Elder Helplines, Legal, and minor home repair projects. These monies are also the prime source of support for Aging and Disability Resource Centers.

Seeking and securing the support of Congress is vital to the effort. Voters should speak to their Senators and Representatives as well as candidates for office to assure their commitment toward aiding elders.

Caring is contagious! We encourage everyone to join as one entity and assist the aging to live dignity. their retirement years with merited •
